O.P. Jindal Global University launches a new BA (Hons) in PPE starting August 2025, aimed at fostering critical thinking and civic engagement.
Dr. Shashi Tharoor, a prominent writer and politician, announced the launch of a four-year Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Philosophy, Politics & Economics (PPE) at O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU). The program will commence in August 2025.
This new course aims to provide a comprehensive education in the humanities. It will prepare students for various careers, including journalism, politics, and law.
Dr. Tharoor emphasized the importance of understanding complex global issues. He stated that combining politics, philosophy, and economics can help students approach economic problems more humanely.
Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, the Founding Vice Chancellor of JGU, highlighted the need for a nuanced understanding of economics. He believes this program will foster respectful disagreement and critical thinking.
Professor Kathleen A. Modrowski, Dean of the Jindal School of Liberal Arts & Humanities, discussed the program’s innovative teaching methods. Students will engage in experiential and collaborative learning, focusing on real-world problems.
Internships and research opportunities will enhance the educational experience. Students will also participate in community engagement to better understand societal issues.
Professor R. Sudarshan, Dean of the Jindal School of Government & Public Policy, noted the foundational role of philosophy in the PPE curriculum. The program encourages students to critically evaluate their learning and engage in public life.
The PPE program at JGU aims to motivate students to become active participants in their communities and to think critically about the world around them.
