PM Internship Scheme 2024 launch delayed as pilot scheme insights need to be reviewed: Report

The PM Internship Scheme 2024 was set to launch but has been delayed. This decision comes as the results from the pilot scheme need to be examined. A recent report from *Business Today* confirmed that a new launch date will be shared soon.

This ambitious scheme is designed to last for 12 months. It aims to offer internships to one crore candidates in the top 500 companies over the next five years. The report indicates that a new launch date will be announced shortly.

According to the report, companies have posted 1.27 lakh internship opportunities under this scheme. So far, around 6.21 lakh applications have been submitted by candidates seeking these positions.

For the financial year 2024-25, the government plans to provide 1.25 lakh internship opportunities in leading companies. The companies included in the list are chosen based on their average Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) spending over the last three years, and participation is voluntary.

During the 12-month internship, candidates must spend half of the time in real work settings instead of classrooms. This approach is intended to give young people valuable experience in various job environments.

The government allocated ₹2,000 crore for this scheme in the Budget for FY 2024-25. As of November 20, ₹6.04 crore has already been spent. Each candidate will receive a one-time allowance of ₹6,000 and a monthly stipend of ₹4,500. Additionally, companies will contribute ₹500 per month to each candidate.

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs recently extended the application deadline for the PM Internship Scheme 2024 until November 15. Candidates must have completed high school or hold a diploma or degree in relevant fields to apply.

Eligible candidates must be between 21 and 24 years old. They should not be working full-time or engaged in full-time education. Those enrolled in online or distance learning programs can also apply.
